Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), an international higher education think tank, has released the 2022 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, a comparative analysis of the performance of 15,200 university education programs, including engineering. In this ranking, Egypt and South Africa are the only African representatives with 5 schools each.

Cairo University, Egypt is the highest ranked. Thanks to the good reputation of its faculties of computer science and civil engineering, it obtained 74 points out of a possible 100, and ranks 134th in the world. His compatriot from Ain Shams is in 269th place in the world, with a total of 68 points. This school offers innovative engineering training. This is the case of his course in urban planning, mechatronics and hydraulics.

With its faculty of engineering and ecology, the University of Cape Town in South Africa closes the African top three, with 68 points which allow it to rank 287th in the world. The other universities in the ranking are respectively the University of Alexandria in Egypt, Pretoria in South Africa, the American University of Cairo in Egypt, those of Witwatersrand and Stellenbosch in South Africa, the University of Mansourah in Egypt , and that of Johannesburg in South Africa.

Globally, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology leads with 96 points. It is followed by two British establishments, namely: the universities of Cambridge and Oxford.

The ranking was developed from 7 engineering and technology sectors, namely: civil engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, mining engineering, petroleum engineering, and computer science. and information systems.

This thematic ranking, which is in its twelfth edition, aims to help future students identify the best schools in the world in their chosen field, in response to the strong demand for comparison at subject level.
