Africa will see the birth of its Foundation for Pharmaceutical Technology which will allow the continent to have access to the manufacture of drugs

The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank has endorsed the establishment of the African Foundation for Pharmaceutical Technology, an innovative institution, which will significantly improve Africa's access to the technologies that underpin the manufacture of medicines, vaccines and other pharmaceuticals.

Africa: The Pfizer group announced on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos that it would sell some of its medicines and vaccines at cost price to 45 low-income and middle-income countries

The American pharmaceutical giant has pledged to launch an initiative aimed at reducing inequalities in access to healthcare between rich and poor countries. A significant number of African countries should benefit from it.

South Africa has just inaugurated a vaccine manufacturing unit in Cape Town which should allow the massive production of drugs and vaccines for all of Africa

Covid-19 has highlighted the flaws in health systems on the African continent. Faced with the difficulties of access to vaccines, several countries on the continent have undertaken initiatives aimed at reducing their dependence on the outside world.
