    Niger is expected to record the strongest economic growth on the African continent in 2022

    In its latest report on the global economic outlook, the IMF raised its 2022 growth forecast for sub-Saharan Africa to 3.8%, despite inflationary risks. Like Niger, six other African countries are expected to register growth above 6% this year.

    Sub-Saharan Africa will post economic growth of 3.6% in 2022 against 4% in 2021

    In 2021, growth in sub-Saharan Africa, the main driver of African growth, was estimated at 4%, according to the World Bank. However, this upward trend should be affected by the consequences of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis which is already impacting consumer prices.

    Nearly 2.4 billion women globally don’t have same economic rights as men

    Around 2.4 billion women of working age are not afforded equal economic opportunity and 178 countries maintain legal barriers that prevent their full economic participation, according to the World Bank’s Women, Business and the Law 2022report. In 86 countries, women face some form of job restriction and 95 countries do not guarantee equal pay for equal work.Globally, women still have only three quarters of the legal rights afforded to men -- an aggregate score of 76.5 out of a possible 100, which denotes complete legal parity.
